Come explore the Amazon with our 5-day, 4-night tour.
Discover two unique ecosystems: the Amazon River Basin and the Yanayacu River Basin. Dive into the jungle, see its plants and animals, and learn about the daily life of the local people. Experience the river and appreciate the natural environment they care for and depend on. Join us for an authentic and close-up adventure!
Day 1
– We’ll kick off the day at 9:00 AM with a pickup from your hotel or the airport. We’ll give you a brief overview of our beautiful island and its main attractions before heading to the “Bellavista Nanay” tourist dock. We’ll board our traditional boat and start our journey downstream on the Amazon River.
– During the trip, we’ll stop briefly at the confluence of the Nanay, Itaya, and Amazon Rivers to see the changes in water color and volume. At FUNDO PEDRITO, you’ll have the chance to see caimans, river turtles, and the Paiche, the largest freshwater fish in the world. As we continue, you’ll enjoy the views of picturesque villages along the riverbanks and the grandeur of the Amazon rainforest, known as one of the 7 natural wonders of the world.
– After about 1 hour and 40 minutes, we’ll reach our lodge, a rustic and cozy setting where you’ll be assigned private cabins.
– At 1:00 PM, you’ll savor a typical lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll take a botanical walk to explore medicinal plants and unique species such as Cat’s Claw, bitter cane, copaiba, aguaje, and the so-called “dead man’s rope” or ayahuasca.
– Dinner will be served at 7:00 PM, followed by a night walk to spot tarantulas, various insects, and more.
Day 2
– At 5:00 AM, we’ll start the day with birdwatching and a sunrise view on the Amazon River. This is the perfect time to spot a wide variety of bird species feeding along the riverbanks.
– By 8:00 AM, we’ll have a hearty breakfast. Next, we’ll visit the Animal Rescue Center, where you can interact with different types of monkeys, as well as an anaconda, a sloth, a prehistoric turtle, and a toucan. You’ll also have the chance to taste typical drinks made from various medicinal barks and honey. We’ll then return to the lodge.
– At 1:00 PM, we’ll enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll go dolphin watching for pink and gray dolphins. Be patient and stay alert to spot them. Depending on the weather, we might be treated to a picturesque sunset.
– Dinner will feature local cuisine, along with stories and myths of the jungle. We’ll spend the night at AMAZON LODGE & EXPEDITIONS.
Day 3
– We start at 8:00 AM with a delicious breakfast. Next, we’ll head to the Yanayacu Communal Reserve for an immersive adventure in the primary rainforest. You’ll marvel at giant trees like the Ceiba and Ficus, explore Tarzan vines, and see the trees that inspired the movie Avatar. You’ll also have the chance to spot animals in their natural habitat, such as monkeys and toucans.
– At 1:00 PM, you’ll enjoy a typical lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the Yagua tribe to learn about their customs, traditional clothing, dialect, crafts, and way of life. You’ll witness a demonstration with the blowgun (pucuna), a traditional hunting tool, and have the chance to join their welcoming dances.
– Dinner will feature typical dishes, followed by a restful night at the lodge.
Day 4
– After an early breakfast, we’ll embark on an exciting fishing excursion targeting piranhas and other fish using traditional rods.
– At 1:00 PM, we’ll enjoy a typical lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the Butterfly Farm in the San Rafael community, where you can witness the butterfly’s metamorphosis from egg to release into the wild. Next, we’ll explore the San Rafael farming community to learn about their local way of life. We’ll then return to the lodge.
– Dinner will feature typical dishes, and we’ll spend the night at the lodge.
Day 5
– We start the day with breakfast. Then, we’ll head to the banks of the Amazon River for a swimming session, including a medicinal mud bath with healing properties for the skin.
– At 1:00 PM, we’ll enjoy a typical lunch. Following that, at 3:00 PM, we’ll begin our return to the city of Iquitos.
– By 5:00 PM, we’ll arrive in Iquitos and transfer you to your hotel or apartment.
