Day 1: Iquitos, Amazon River & Amazon Lodge
Itinerary
We will begin our adventure with a transfer to Bellavista Nanay, where we will board our boat to navigate the Nanay and Amazon rivers. During the journey, we will visit the meeting point of both rivers and appreciate the beautiful contrast between their waters.
If conditions are favorable, we will have the chance to observe pink and gray dolphins in their natural habitat (please note that wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed).We will continue sailing down the Amazon River until we reach Amazon Lodge, located right on the riverbanks, where we will stay during our expedition. Before lunch, you will have time to explore the surroundings of the lodge and enjoy the stunning Amazonian scenery.
In the afternoon, we will visit a local riverside community to learn about their traditional lifestyle and customs.After dinner, we will head out for our first night walk to look for insects, tree frogs, rodents, and other nocturnal species of the Amazonian wildlife.
Day 2: Yagua Community, & The Giant Lupuna Tree (Ceiba)
We will start early to enjoy a breathtaking sunrise over the Amazon, accompanied by the songs of numerous bird species.
After breakfast, we will visit the Yagua community to discover part of their traditions and customs. We will have the opportunity to learn how to use the traditional blowgun (cerbatana), anciently used for hunting.
We will then navigate along the Amazon River until we reach the Yanayacu River. There, we will stop and trek into the rainforest to reach the majestic Lupuna (Ceiba pentandra), one of the Amazon’s most iconic giant trees.
During the hike, we will learn about its ecological and cultural importance while discovering the incredible richness of the rainforest.
You will also have the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim in the river and try your hand at traditional piranha fishing.
After lunch, we will begin our boat journey back to Iquitos along the Amazon River, enjoying the rainforest landscapes one last time.
