Full-Day Amazon Adventure: Monkey Island

 Itinerary

  • Departure: 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
  • Return: 5:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Bellavista Nanay, Nanay River & Amazon River

The adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel or the airport, followed by a transfer to Bellavista Nanay. There, we will visit the local market, where you can discover traditional Amazonian products and exotic dishes, such as the famous suri grub, among others. From Bellavista Nanay, we will board our boat and navigate the Nanay River until we reach its confluence with the mighty Amazon River. During the journey, we will enjoy the beautiful landscapes while learning about the history, importance, and characteristics of these two rivers. We will continue sailing down the Amazon River in search of pink and gray dolphins—one of the most unique experiences in the rainforest. With a bit of luck, we will observe them swimming freely in their natural habitat.

Visit to the Yagua Native Community

Next, we will visit a Yagua native community to learn firsthand about their customs, handmade crafts, and traditional dances. You will also learn about their ancient hunting techniques and have the opportunity to test your skills using the cerbatana (traditional blowgun), an authentic tool used by Amazonian hunters.

Visit to the Monkey Island Rescue Center

The journey continues as we arrive at the authentic Monkey Island (Isla de los Monos), where we will have the unique opportunity to see various primate species up close, such as the woolly monkey, titi monkey, spider monkey, saki, howler monkey, and the tiny pygmy marmoset, among others.

Monkey Island is an authorized family-run rescue center dedicated to the rescue, care, rehabilitation, and, whenever possible, release of primates that have been victims of illegal wildlife trafficking. During our visit, we will learn about its history and the critical importance of protecting these species and conserving their natural habitat.

Amazonian Lunch at the Lodge

Following the rescue center visit, we will enjoy a traditional Amazonian lunch surrounded by nature. This will be the perfect moment to rest and recharge your energy before continuing our adventure.

Visit to Fundo Pedrito

In the afternoon, we will visit Fundo Pedrito, where we can observe giant paiches (arapaima), pirañas, caimans, and other representative species of Amazonian fauna in a managed environment. During this visit, we will learn more about these incredible species and their role in the Amazonian ecosystem.
